This course develops the mountain skills you need, with the ability to navigate, finding routes on steep ground, selection of kit, all the skills required for walking at a high level in the mountains. If you are a beginner, hill walker, or looking to improve your skills for walking in the mountains, this course is just what you need to start extending your walking experiences. It is just stunning scenery along this part of the coastline. With views out to the Snowdonia mountains with a lot of snow on at the moment are absolutely excellent. There is always a part of the coastline you can do, no matter the weather. If the prevailing winds are south westeries not this section on the north east is relatively sheltered from these winds. Even in heavy rain it can still be quite warm. Mountaineering Joe is once again adventuring out into the Picos De Europa for Sept 2014. There will be 3 trips. The first will be gentle valley walks where there is not too much height gain during the day. The second type will be day walks to a few summits on the massifs which require walkers to be fit. We will return to the valley at the end of each day. Finally there will be multi day walks, where we stay in mountain huts over a period and 3 or 4 days. The first part of North West Face

This a great day out on a grade 2 scramble. We were scrambling on the right-hand side of the Slabs. The north west face is a series of gigantic ledges with intermediate slabs, ideal of course for lunch stops in between those technical sections . We started just to the right of Idwal staircase and scrambled our way up on the right of the big waterfall in the staircase. Avoiding the wet sections and climbing on good clean dry rock, we had a good scrambling day out. Very wet but happy…a good day!

We had a great but wet day out in Cwm Idwal scrambling just right of Idwal Slabs on the North West face. We started on the North West Face Route on the slabby face just pass Idwal staircase, on excellent friction rock. When we arrived at the break which is half way up the cliff and then we continued up on the left via a series of grooves and ledges until we arrived at Seniors Ridge. There were streams coming down! It was an good walking day trekking up to Llyn Cowlyd with beautiful views across the Nant Ffrancon valley. We started around the Helyg and took a good path to Llyn Cowlyd, coming down towards Capel Curig and finally back along the old A5 track up the valley. Scrambling on Tryfan. A New route on the east face of Tryfan. We were on the South Buttress and Paddy wanted to find a new way up the buttress. So we select a weakness just to the left of the South Rib route. It was an excellent day with grade 3 scrambling ground, weaving in and out of the blank sections to find interesting the grade 3 ground.
