It’s the most beautiful valley, the Llanberis Pass, with the best mountaineering route at HS on Cyrn Las. On most days it is cold but with the weather we have at the moment it was the ideal route to do! Cyrn Las is an impressive crag. The route Main Wall, is the easiest route on the cliff, and a classic, but looking up you will struggle to see where it goes zig zaging about on the face.

To complete the Welsh 3000s Challenge you are required to have been at the top of all 15 of the mountains over 3000 ft in Wales within 24 hours! The walk is 24 miles, but by the time you get off, it is more like 30 miles. How difficult is it? Not as tough as you would expect as once you are up high the peaks are not so tall! It is however, much harder than the “Three Peaks Challenge”. You have to have a fair degree of fitness in the mountains to enjoy it.
It is rocky in places, and both descend and ascend are demanding. Navigation can also be problematic in bad poor visibility conditions. You can do the walk over 2 days using a fully equipped mountain hut.
The Welsh 3000s as challenge, walk or experience is second to none! Contact me if this interests you and I can arrange something which suits you.

Aya, had always wanted to climb Ben Nevis in winter conditions. So she set herself a target of climbing Ben Nevis this winter. The weather had been quite bad recently so we weren’t sure we could get up it! But we got a nice weather window where the winds dropped to reasonable levels and we went for it. Turned out to be a good day for the time of the year. The intense white out at the top for the last 2km which made it interesting. No views from the top that day! Mountaineering Joe is once again adventuring out into the Picos De Europa for Sept 2014. There will be 3 trips. The first will be gentle valley walks where there is not too much height gain during the day. The second type will be day walks to a few summits on the massifs which require walkers to be fit. We will return to the valley at the end of each day. Finally there will be multi day walks, where we stay in mountain huts over a period and 3 or 4 days. So join us for some of the best mountain views in Europa. For more information on what we offer have a look here http://mountaineeringjoe.co.uk/mountain-holidays/picos-de-europa/ and feel free to call for a chat about what you would like to do in the Picos de Europa!

The Welsh 3000s. A Great but very hot day. Kathy took on the challenge and was not put off by the soaring temperatures we have seen over the last few weeks . She was very determined to succeed. We were up by 2am and left the car park at 3am in the morning and was off the mountain at 10.30 at night. She flew over Crib Goch , Carnedd Ugain, and Snowdon at a good pace, down to Nant Peris in the valley to the backup team for refuelling where she started the gruelling walk up out of the valley to Elidir Fawr. From here it was plain sailing crossing the Glyders, flying up Y Garn, Glyder Fawr, Glyder Fach and over to Tryfan and back down into the Ogwen valley. The final big ascent did not put her off as she powered up to Pen Yr Ole Wen in afternoon sun which started to see temperatures in the high 20s. Pretty exhausted now she continued to finish off all the remaining 7 peaks over 3000 feet , including Carnedd Dafydd, Carnedd Llewelyn, dog legged to Yr Elen and then Foel Grach, Garnedd Uchaf finishing on Foel Fras until the sun was dropping fast. An excellent performance under tough conditions! Well done Kathy! It possible to do this challenge over 2 days click here for details

Tony wanted to the Welsh 3000s challenge over 2 days. Tony decided that he wanted to take on the challenge at a more relaxed pace over a longer period. So we arranged a stay on route at a mountain hut overnight in the Ogwen Valley, before the final walk on the Carneddau. This worked out well, and a solution that really allowed Tony to enjoy the whole experience without having to complete it in the dark. For more information on doing multiday challenges click here</a
