During September I am running an Advanced Navigation Course. This deals with steep complex mountainous ground contour interpretation. We look at using natural features to find out through this type of ground where a compass and timings are less useful and efficient. This also leads to good route finding using the gullies and ridges to navigate for you. Contact me for more details Joe at Mountaineering Joe.
Mountain skills course in Snowdonia. This weekend I ran a Mountain skills course for Clair and Andrew. We discussed developing plans for mountain walks including escape routes and timings. We practiced navigating on steep ground, and spent time on understanding the weather in the mountains and how this differs to normal weather forecasts. Also how to deal with mountain emergencies, route finding and learning about the mountain environment. A great weekend for developing walking independence in the mountains.

Thanks to Raj, Keiran, Louise, Bani, and Dan what a great group I had on our Mountain skills course this March. We had a great time spent over 2 days navigating and discussing mountains skills and the environment which all leads up to walking in the mountains safely. Topics discussed included planning your route, route finding, clothing systems, mountain weather, emergency situations and of course navigation You also get me to chat in the future to keep developing those mountain skills.
We had a great few days transferring indoor wall climbing and bouldering skills to outdoor leading multi pitch rock climbing. Placing gear, building belays, and belay stance management. A great way to start your outdoor rock climbing
The Mountain skills course develops mountain skills. Nic , James and Matty wanted to make sure they had everything covered. We went through everything required to look after yourself is covered from navigation to what to pack in your rucksack. Will spent 2 days out in the mountains discussing what to do when, personal kit, and they developed their navigation skills particularly on the contour interpretation front.
