Mountaineering Joe specialises in guided traverses of the Welsh 3000s 14 peaks challenge, the ultimate Snowdonia extended ridge adventure. Traverse the spectacular mountain ranges of the Snowdon Massif, the Glyderau and the Carneddau. Summit all of Snowdonia’s peaks over 3000ft in 24 hours, or over 2/3 days, covering in excess of 30 miles of rugged mountain terrain.

Welsh 3000s 14 peaks challenge events often push your mental and physical strengths to the limit. They are about endurance and stamina, traversing difficult terrain, lengthy ascents, steep descents and rocky ridges. Our Challenge Training Days are designed to develop your skills in moving over rough and steep ground. Increasing your proficiency, confidence and judgement when you are out in the mountains.

Approach to Skills Development

Being prepared for your challenge makes you much safer. Our professional, experienced, patient and friendly instructor will introduce you to the techniques and skills in a logical progression, developing competence, observational skills and judgement, in keeping with your personal aspirations and abilities.

We believe that a small group size is important. Our maximum group size for training days is 6 clients. For the challenge itself our ratio is 4 clients to one qualified instructor.

Challenge Training Day: Course Content

Mountaineering Joe offers training to prepare you for your Welsh 3000s 14 peaks challenge, whether it is the Welsh 3000s, The National 3 Peaks, or one of a variety of other mountain challenges. We advocate responsible walking in the mountains and we will cover safety, access, conservation, environmental and impact issues where relevant during the day. What experience do I need?

Further information is available on the activity pages, but essentially:

  • Welsh 3000s 14 peaks challenge in 24 hours: You will need to be a fit mountain walker. This is a strenuous challenge that requires stamina.
  • Welsh 3000s 14 peaks challenge in 2/3 days: You will need to be a fit hill walker with experience of mountain walking. The days are long and strenuous, often over exposed ridges with steep drops. You will be walking over rough and steep ground for between 5 to 8 hours a day.
  • Welsh 3000s 14 peaks challenge training: You will need experience of hill walking and have a reasonable level of fitness. A training day will provide you with an insight into what you need to do, to succeed on your challenge.The Welsh 3000s involves strenuous exercise and endurance. You should consider carefully, whether your general level of fitness prevents you from participating in your challenge activity, until you have undergone appropriate training.

What equipment will I need?

You will need clothing, waterproofs and footwear appropriate for the terrain and time of year. A kit list is provided for Challenge activities.

All courses are on an ‘instruction’ basis. NOTE: We can advise on local accommodation and arrange bunkhouse style if required
